Burglar breaks into Oakville home while residents asleep, steals car: police

Halton Regional Police have arrested a Brampton man after an Oakville home was broken into while the residents were sleeping and their car was taken.

The overnight incident happened on Tuesday, Aug. 10. The alleged assailant drove away after having acquired the owner’s keys. Police say he used the victim’s credit card that he had found in the car.

A 22-year-old man is charged with break, enter and commit, theft of motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime, and fraudulent use of a credit card. He has been released on undertaking. The charges have not been proven in court.

Police remind residents to lock garage doors, lock vehicles, remove garage door openers from vehicles if possible, and to make sure driveways are well lit.
